The Little Bat & His Reminder To Help
First off, I want to thank the kind gentleman, Tom, who helped my mom and I with this mini-rescue. A big shout out to him for stopping and helping us.
My mom and I were taking an early afternoon walk and saw a little bat in the middle of the walking path. At first, we looked at him, thinking he was dead. But then, we noticed life! He was breathing! Tiny little movements on his back, inhaling and exhaling. My guess is he fell out of a tree, as it was a very windy day. Being a nocturnal creature, he must have been too tired to fly away or thought he was safe and sound in his tree.
He looked so content sleeping, so peaceful and at ease. I felt like he needed our help, because he was sound asleep, clinging onto the walking path. It was a very open area. Not safe for him on a high-traffic bike path. He would have become as flat as a bat-berry pancake 🙂Â
We didn’t really know what to do and thought if we could scoop him on my mom’s study papers and place him on the side of the path. That had to be better than nothing. Another walker, Tom, came along and wanted to help too when he saw our mission.
We were very careful not to touch him and handled him with care, to protect ourselves and him. Gently and carefully, we scooped him and placed him into the branches and shrubbery, to keep him safe from other animals and humans.
It wouldn’t even have been a few seconds later, a couple of cyclists came across the trail and would have gone directly over where the little bat was sleeping. – Not that they would have run over him intentionally, they would not have seen him with his size and their speed –
Sometimes stopping and helping someone can change their life, in a big way. Even if it’s just something small that’ll only take a couple of seconds. It can make a big impact.
Remember we all bring something to the table to help others. Mom happened to have her study papers to scoop the bat, Tom had bravery and wasn’t afraid to get a little close to hold the paper with the bat on it.
My message to all of you is that if you see anyone in need of a little helping hand, it just takes a second to help someone. And that could make or break their life.Â
